10 Things You NEED To Survive The HCG Diet


Every major journey needs it’s own survival kit, and the HCG Diet is no different. Having “survived “ more than one round of the HCG Diet, I thought I’d lend a hand to my fellow dieters and give you the list of contents in my HCG Survival Kit.




1. Non-Stick Cookware

This may seem obvious, but it has to be said: there is NO oil allowed on Phase 2 of the HCG Diet.  Having at least one non-stick fry pan will be your lifesaver.  There are other options, like steamers, microwave cooking, and ???  Use whatever works best for you, but make sure you have something in your cupboard before you start the diet.

2. Food Scale

These can be as simple as a $20 plastic scale, found in most grocery stores, or as advanced as a digital, stainless steel version that becomes one of your favorite kitchen gadgets.  Either way, Phase 2 of the HCG Diet is about strict portion control.  This means weighing your food, not eyeballing it.

3. Weigh Scale that measures Body Fat %

This one is a little more for your own encouragement.  You WILL see your body shrinking in size and a regular weigh scale will show the pounds coming off.  The difference in having a scale that measures Body Fat % is that you will KNOW that it’s fat you’re losing and not water or muscle.  Other diets help you lose weight; the HCG Diet helps you lose fat.  It’s nice to actually see that in your digital read out every morning.  And yes, unlike other diets, it’s actually encouraged to weigh yourself every morning…so go ahead and check yourself out ;)

4. Stevia – (Kal)

Sugars are forbidden on this diet, but that doesn’t mean your sweet tooth has to go unfed, and it doesn’t mean you have to fill your body with fake sugars made with harmful chemicals.  Stevia is an all-natural sweetener, derived from the leaf of the stevia plant.  It used to be found only in health food stores, but is finding its way into the mainstream slowly.  There are several brands available, but stevia often has a slight bitterness that is more prominent in some brands than others.  Our personal favorite is the Kal brand stevia.  Feel free to test a few out for yourself, but I never travel without taking my own bottle of Kal Stevia with me.

5. Shirataki Noodles

Absolute miracle maker for this diet!  If you struggle with being hungry, or simply need something more to your meals, these noodles will be your lifesaver.  They are zero calories – yes, that’s what I said zero calories!  They are 100% fiber, made originally from the fiber of a shirataki root (similar to a yam), but they now make them from the fiber of other sources, including tofu.  They are not like a spaghetti noodle, no matter how many recipes out there give you that option.  They are more like an Asian stir-fry noodle.  They come packaged in water, and are already soft.  To learn more about them and how to use them in recipes, check out our Low Carb Noodle Recipes.

6. Broth (fat free)

Fat free Chicken, Beef, or Vegetable broth - it doesn’t matter which, they are all helpful.  Broth is a “free food,” which means that you can have as much as you want.  Fill up by making soups (which you can add the Shirataki noodles to and make beef vegetable soup or chicken noodle soup), or simply add a few spices like onion and garlic powder, heat and sip.  This is really helpful for those times when you need something savory, and are just a little hungry.

7. Flavored Teas

For those times when you need to sip on something sweet, flavored teas are the best!  One of our favorite ways is to make a big pot of peach or berry iced tea with a bit of stevia to sweeten it.  Sip on that throughout the day and you just might find a new favorite over sodas.

8. Spices and Extracts

9. Unflavored Gelatin

This is where your flavored stevia drops or extracts come into play.  Just add the extracts and stevia sweeteners to your unflavored gelatin, and you have a no calorie, naturally flavored, dessert that will keep you from feeling deprived.  You can even choose to add your serving of fruit right into the mix.

10. Aloe Vera Gel

Avoiding oils on the HCG Diet isn’t just in our foods, but on our skin.  During Phase 2 of the HCG Diet, you are not supposed to use face creams and lotions that contain oils, as they will get absorbed through your skin and your body will seek to use them for energy.  A great alternative is a good quality Aloe Vera Gel.  We like Jason’s.
